Step Seven - Add a SEARCH BUTTON to your site.

Around fifty percent of people who use search engines and directories use a KEYWORD SEARCH rather than browse the category lists available.

If you'd like to offer this service, try it out first! Again, the results are customisable by playing with the variables as outlined in the previous instructions.

Search for

To install on your site, follow the two steps below...

Step 1

Place the SEARCH BOX code (below) wherever you'd like on your pages.

Sample Search Box Code

Click to then copy (type Control-c or Apple-c) and paste (type Control-v or Apple-v) this code into your page where you want the search box to appear:

Obviously you can change the layout to suit your page, but ALL the variables in the hidden fields MUST STAY (even if you DON'T want to customise the results).

Please note that the maximum number of results that can be displayed with format #2 is 25. Formats #1 and #3 are usually best used with just 1-5 results (max possible is 10), and displayed as just one part of a page with other content on it, as they don't contain a header or footer strip.

Step 2

Now, prepare a second page. You MUST name it "searchresults.html" (to match the page you called in the <form action=""> bit above).

Place the following code on that page where you'd like your results displayed.

Firstly... include your final SEARCH BOX code here.

Then include the code below to read and generate the results...

Click to then copy (type Control-c or Apple-c) and paste (type Control-v or Apple-v) this code into your page where you want the search results to appear:

And that's it... when someone searches for a key word (or words) from your search box, they are sent to the results page... all the variables (including your customisation codes) are sent to us to search for. The results are then shown on your page!

Back to Step 7 - Use a KEYWORD instead of a Category.
